Are You Fixing Up A Great-Running Clunker Car?

Posted on: 7 April 2020

Were you lucky enough to buy a clunker car that runs great for an outstanding price? Maybe the reason you got such a good deal on the car is that it needs some repairs. If that's the case, your best bet is probably to take the car to an auto repair body shop. By doing that, you'll have experts working on your car and making it look as good as it runs.

Before you take your car to the auto repair shop, consider making a list of what needs to be done. While you might be given an estimated cost of the repairs, you will probably be told that the car will need to be seen in person in order to give you an accurate amount of what the repairs will cost. The plus of taking the car in might also be that the service personnel might see an important repair that you might have overlooked.

The Outside Of The Car

Your list of what needs to be done to the body of the car might include the following:

  • Minor dents or scratches would not be a big deal to repair.
  • On the other hand, a missing bumper might need to be ordered.
  • Maybe the car has some serious hail damage.
  • Broken windows can probably be replaced in a relatively short amount of time.
  • If the paint job is old, consider going with a brand-new paint job.

The Inside Of The Car

While you're at it, you might as well make the inside of the car look as good as the body of the car.

Do seat covers need to be totally replaced, or will minor repairs be enough?

The dashboard might need to be painted. The shop will have the right kind of paint to do the job well.

Even things like getting a new steering wheel cover will make the car look better.

Even though new floor mats might not count as repairs, you might be able to get new ones right at the repair shop.

The door panels might be scratched and in need of repainting or replacing.

Once you and the service department at the auto body repair shop have agreed on which jobs they'll do, make sure to get your estimate on paper. Ask the shop to contact you if they find any other repairs that need to be done. Be sure you are in agreement with the cost you are given before any work is started.
